The aquaculture of tropical rock oyster species is an exciting and rapidly growing industry that offers significant potential to help developing nations achieve food autonomy while reducing the environmental impacts commonly associated with land-based agriculture or intensive fisheries. In recent years, interest in tropical rock oyster farming has gained considerable momentum, resulting in a deeper understanding of the species’ biology and notable advancements in hatchery production techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collaboration and information exchange among researchers, resource managers, and stakeholders have been crucial to this progress. This spirit of cooperation was exemplified by the first International Tropical Rock Oyster (ITRO) Workshop, hosted by the Northern Territory of Australia and co-organized by the South Pacific Community (SPC) in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on this foundation, the Ifremer Research Centre is delighted to announce that it will host the 2nd ITRO Workshop the 1-3 September 2025 in Tahiti, French Polynesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This second workshop will be an opportunity to exchange about the development of tropical oyster farming throughout the Pacific and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
