En 1519, le portugais Magellan s&#8217;est vu confier par le jeune roi d\u2019Espagne, une exp\u00e9dition jusqu&#8217;aux \u00eeles aux \u00c9pices, les Moluques dans l\u2019actuelle Indon\u00e9sie, en empruntant une nouvelle voie par l&#8217;Ouest qu&#8217;il devait d\u00e9couvrir. Cette zone Indo-Pacifique \u00e9tait alors d\u00e9j\u00e0 investie par les portugais qui en exploitaient les richesses. Les lusitaniens, navigateurs pr\u00e9curseurs, avaient ouvert les voies maritimes et acc\u00e9daient \u00e0 cette vaste zone, longeant les c\u00f4tes de l\u2019Afrique en empruntant le cap de Bonne Esp\u00e9rance. Le 10 ao\u00fbt, 5 nefs et 237 hommes d&#8217;\u00e9quipage sous le commandement de Fernand de Magellan ont appareill\u00e9 de S\u00e9ville en Espagne sur ordre de Charles 1<sup>er<\/sup>, futur Charles Quint. Trois ans et un mois plus tard, seule la Victoria, command\u00e9e par le basque Juan Sebasti\u00e1n Elcano, est de retour \u00e0 S\u00e9ville, avec 21 hommes \u00e0 bord. C\u2019est le point de d\u00e9part d\u2019une carri\u00e8re de 26 ans dans la Marine Nationale comme m\u00e9canicien suivie d\u2019une seconde carri\u00e8re dans l\u2019industrie en tant qu\u2019ing\u00e9nieur de maintenance. De nombreux voyages ont \u00e9maill\u00e9 ses carri\u00e8res. Le plus marquant ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 celui qui lui a fait d\u00e9couvrir la Polyn\u00e9sie\u00a0: coup de foudre et attachement qui durent encore aujourd\u2019hui.
